How do you obtain your social security number online?
We all know that taking part in an internship is a key opportunity to get started with an excellent professional career. However, maybe the most challenging and unknown part of this is the paperwork involved. But, are you going to let bureaucracy stop you?
As you know (or if you don’t, now is your chance to find out!), at Spain Internship, with the collaboration of dozens of European Universities, we have created a brand-new Online Internship Program, alongside more than 150 companies. In a world growingly interconnected by technology, it is important to adapt, more now than ever, to the various options for training and learning.
The first aspect we must be considered is that if we are accepted for an internship, remunerated through salary or other benefits, it is vital to be registered with the Spanish Social Security system.
This is where complications and confusion may arise. How can I obtain this number if I cannot go in person to the relevant offices? You look on Google for how to obtain it, and you see that they ask for a digital certificate, a key code that comes on a paper they gave you the last time you updated your ID number, and you have no idea where that might be now. Wow, bureaucracy can be a nightmare sometimes, right?
At Spain Internship, we have prepared a guide, so that once you have found your internship, you can obtain the Social Security number online quickly and easily. Don’t let paperwork stop you from doing your dream internship!
The first thing you need to know is: Can I obtain the Social Security number online? The answer is YES.
The first step is to download the TA1 form, complete it, and send it to the company so that they can review and sign it. You can find it here.
Have a copy of your passport at hand. Do not worry if you do not have a scanner, printer, etc. There are plenty of apps designed for that. For example, CamScanner. Also, remember to have a copy of your Training Agreement in Spanish. If it is not in Spanish, do not worry; a Certificate of Acceptance in Spanish with all the details of your internship signed by the company is also valid. At Spain Internship, we are always here to help you with all of this documentation.
Once you have the TA1 form complete, the copy of your passport, and the Training Agreement/Acceptance Letter, congratulations! You are nearly there. Now you can join all the different elements together as one PDF file. If you do not know how to do this, there are free websites where you can do this very easily, such as IlovePDF.
Let’s go to step two. If you do not have the electronic certificate and key code, or if you have problems when using them, you can also apply for the Social Security number without a certificate. You can also access this website web. At the end of the page, you can select “without certificate”:
And you have now completed the second step. Let’s go to the third and last step:
You just need to fill out the form which will appear on the screen:
In the section of “written, request, or communication” remember to include the reason for requesting the Social Security number. For example, Taking part in a non-work internship in the company (COMPANY NAME) for which the Social Security number is being requested.
Also, remember that you should provide a Spanish address, so if you are not currently in Spain, or your internship is online, you should include the address of the company instead.
When you click “Continue”, a message should appear on the screen informing you that you have correctly requested the Social Security number. Shortly after, you should be assigned your Social Security number. After this, you will be able to start your internship, including if it is an online internship. Easy, right? These bureaucratic processes can be much more simple than they seem. Even better, you have been able to do it from home in less than 5 minutes, without any hassle or queues!
